Workspace Layout
The workbench is fully rearrangeable. Views (Project Explorer, Explorer, PLC Online Connections, …) and editors (block source, Import / Export, Find Unused, Password Vault, PLC Online) can be moved, hidden, split, and resized, and the layout is remembered for the next session.
Rearranging views
- Drag a view's title bar within the Side Bar to reorder it, or drag it onto the Panel (bottom) to dock it there instead — and back again. Views can live in the Side Bar, the Secondary Side Bar (right), or the Panel.
- Drag the splitter between the Side Bar and the editor area, or between editor groups, to change their proportions.
- Collapse a view by clicking its title bar; click again to expand it.
- Hide a view from the … overflow menu in a view container's header, or right-click the Activity Bar / view title and toggle visibility. Hidden views are not destroyed — re-enable them from the same menu.
- Reset View Locations — run this command from the Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P) to restore every view and the panel to their default positions.
Editor groups (split editors)
- Split the editor with the split button in the editor toolbar (top-right), by dragging an editor tab to the side or bottom of the editor area, or with Ctrl+\ for a vertical split.
- Each side becomes an editor group; drag tabs between groups to compare a block source against the Import / Export pane, or two block editors side by side.
- Closing the last tab in a group removes the group and the remaining group expands.
Panel position
- The Panel (Output, Problems, Terminal) can sit at the bottom, left, or right of the window. Use View → Appearance → Panel Position, or the panel's own move controls.
- Collapse, expand, or maximize the panel with the controls in its top-right corner.
Side Bar position
- The primary Side Bar normally sits on the left. Toggle it with Ctrl+B.
- A Secondary Side Bar can be shown on the right (View → Appearance → Secondary Side Bar) to keep two view containers visible at once.
Full screen and Zen mode
- Full Screen — F11 hides the window chrome and uses the whole display.
- Zen Mode — Ctrl+K Z hides the Activity Bar, Side Bar, Panel, and Status Bar to focus on a single editor. Press Esc twice to leave.
- Centered Layout — centers the editor with even margins for distraction-free reading; toggle it from View → Appearance → Centered Layout.
What is remembered
The workbench remembers the layout per window between sessions, including:
- Which views are visible and where they are docked
- Side Bar and panel sizes and the panel position
- Editor groups, their split orientation, and open editors
- Full screen, Zen mode, and centered-layout state
Project content (files, blocks, settings) and connection state are independent of the layout and are never changed by rearranging the workbench.
