EPLAN Project Check
The EPLAN project check is part of the EPLAN integration in the Pro+ and Enterprise plans. It runs the check of your EPLAN project with a check scheme from your EPLAN master data and shows the messages in Studio, so you can find a missing CPU name, a doubled address or an open connection before you exchange data with TIA Portal.
Prerequisites
- An open EPLAN project in Studio (see EPLAN Integration).
- A Pro+ or Enterprise license.
The check needs no additional module of your EPLAN licence.
Running the Check
Run Run EPLAN Project Check. You can start it from:
- the More Actions menu (...) in the title bar of the EPLAN Project Explorer;
- the check list icon in the title bar of the Check Results view;
- the Command Palette, by searching for Run EPLAN Project Check.
Studio lists the check schemes of your EPLAN master data. The first entry, Last Used Check Scheme, runs the check with the scheme EPLAN used last; its name is shown next to it. Before a data exchange with TIA Portal, a scheme with the PLC checks of your master data is a good choice.
A progress message shows that the check is running. You can cancel it there; EPLAN then stops after its current step. When the check is done, a message tells you how many errors, warnings and hints are open, and the Check Results view opens.
The Check Results View
The Check Results view sits in the EPLAN side bar. Its first line sums up the last check: the number of open errors, warnings and hints, the scheme and the time of the check. When the check found more messages than Studio shows, the line says how many are shown.
Below it, the messages are grouped by area, for example terminals, cables, PLC or device tags. Each group shows how many messages it holds and how many of them are open errors and warnings. Each message shows its severity (Error, Warning or Hint), its number as EPLAN shows it and its text. Hover over a message to see whether it is marked as done in EPLAN.
A message that belongs to a page has a Go to Page button. Click the message or the button to open the page in the page preview.
Clear EPLAN Check Results in the title bar of the view empties the view and removes the messages from the Problems panel.
Messages in the Problems Panel
Every open message that belongs to a page also appears in the Problems panel, with the source EPLAN Check. Open it there to go to the page. Messages that are marked as done in EPLAN, and messages without a page, appear only in the Check Results view.
When Studio writes data from TIA Portal into EPLAN, the messages EPLAN reports during that import appear in the Problems panel with the source EPLAN Import.
The Check Before Data from TIA Portal
Before Studio writes hardware, addresses or symbol names from TIA Portal into your EPLAN project, it runs the project check. When the check reports open errors, nothing is written, and the messages are shown in the Check Results view and the Problems panel. Fix the errors in EPLAN, run the check again, and then repeat the transfer. See EPLAN to TIA Hardware Import and EPLAN Signals to TIA Tag Tables.
Asking the Assistant
You can ask the EPLAN Engineer agent in the chat to run the check, for example "check the EPLAN project with the PLC scheme and explain the errors". The assistant runs the same check, so the messages also appear in the Check Results view and the Problems panel.
Notes
- The check does not change your schematic. EPLAN keeps one list of check messages per project, and a new check replaces the messages of the previous one, also in EPLAN's own message management.
- The texts of the messages are in the language of your EPLAN user interface.
- When your EPLAN master data has no check scheme, Studio runs the check with the scheme EPLAN used last.
