EPLAN to TIA Hardware Import

The EPLAN to TIA hardware import is included in the Pro+ and Enterprise plans. It reads the PLC hardware defined in an open EPLAN project, compares it against the hardware already present in your TIA Portal project, and lets you bring the EPLAN hardware into TIA without re-modelling it by hand.

Prerequisites

  • An open EPLAN project that contains PLC hardware (stations, racks and modules).
  • An open and connected TIA Portal project to import the hardware into.
  • A Pro+ or Enterprise license. The import is part of the tier and signed into your license; on a lower tier, starting the import shows an upgrade dialog instead of opening the comparison view.

Starting the Import

Open both projects first: your EPLAN project (see EPLAN Integration) and the TIA Portal project you want to import into. Then run Import Hardware from EPLAN…. You can start it two ways:

  • From the Command Palette, search for Import Hardware from EPLAN….
  • From the circuit-board icon in the title bar of the EPLAN Project Explorer.

A comparison view titled EPLAN to TIA Hardware opens.

The Comparison View

The view lists the EPLAN project's PLC hardware as a tree. The hardware is grouped from stations down to their racks and modules, so you can expand a station to see what it contains.

Each row has these columns:

  • Name — the name of the station, rack or module.
  • Type — the device type.
  • Article — the article number.
  • Firmware — the firmware version.
  • Address — the configured address.
  • Status — a badge that tells you how this piece of hardware compares against your TIA project.

The Status badge shows one of:

  • New — the hardware exists in EPLAN but is not yet in the TIA project.
  • Changed — the hardware exists in both, but some detail differs between EPLAN and TIA.
  • Unchanged — the hardware matches what is already in the TIA project.
  • Only in TIA — the hardware exists in the TIA project but is not in the EPLAN project.

Filtering and Refreshing

  • Use the station filter dropdown above the tree to narrow the view to a single station. Pick a station to focus on it, or clear the filter to see all of them.
  • Click Refresh to read the EPLAN and TIA projects again and rebuild the comparison after you have changed either side.

Importing the Hardware

When the comparison looks right, click Import Hardware. The EPLAN hardware is brought into the connected TIA project. When it finishes, a message confirms how many stations were imported.

You can re-run the comparison afterwards with Refresh to see the imported stations reflected in the status badges.

Availability

The EPLAN to TIA hardware import comes with the Pro+ and Enterprise plans, the same access level as the other EPLAN features. There is no separate purchase. After upgrading to Pro+ or Enterprise, sign out and sign back in (or trigger a license re-validate from the License panel) so the new entitlement is fetched.
